If you, a team member, or a client have questions related to a document or transaction in Apron, you can leave a comment and collaborate without lengthy email threads and phone calls.
Where to add comments
You can add comments in several areas:
Under the ‘Pay’ tab – For all documents in the ‘For review’ section. Click on the selected transaction and open the ‘Comments’ view on the right-hand side.
Under the ‘Bookkeeping – Purchases’ and ‘Sales’ tabs – For all documents in the ‘Inbox’ section. Click on the selected document and open the ‘Comments’ view on the right-hand side.
Under the ‘Bookkeeping – Unreconciled transactions’ tab – Click on the selected transaction and scroll down to the ‘Comments’ section visible on the right-hand side.
Features of comments
When you add a comment, you can:
Tag another team member – Start typing the ‘@’ symbol, then select the team member you want to mention.
Each time you mention someone in a comment, they will receive an email notification with a link to the comment thread. You will also receive an email notification when someone replies to the thread.
Attach a document with the comment – Any file you attach will be visible to all team members with access to that specific tab (e.g. Bill Pay or Sales).
Adding comments during payments
When you make a new payment, you can also add a comment on the ‘Payment details’ screen. When the payment is sent for approval, both the approvers and the payer will be able to see your comments.
Comments will remain visible when you access the completed payment (payrun) from the ‘Paid’ section.
Assigning unreconciled transactions
You can also assign a specific unreconciled transaction to one of your team members if you’d like them to explain a specific transaction or add a supporting document.

Customizing your email notification preferences
You can easily manage your email notification preferences directly at Apron. To do that:
Click on the circle with your initials in the bottom-left corner of your Apron portal.
Choose ‘Personal settings’.
Select ‘Email notifications’.
Under the ‘Comments’ section, choose one of the available options:
Only when tagged – To only receive email notifications when tagged by another team member in a comment.
All comments – To receive email notifications for all comments for transactions and documents in the threads where you were tagged before.
