Set up your Apron account from QuickBooks

Everything you need to know about setting up your Apron account and verifying your business identity when paying bills from QuickBooks Online for the first time.

Written by Yasmine Sefouane

If you're using Apron for the first time through QuickBooks Online (QBO), this guide walks you through what to expect — from creating your account to making your first payment.

Do I need an Apron account?

Yes. Every company using QuickBooks Online needs its own Apron account to pay bills through Apron.

The first time you click Pay in QBO, Apron will create or link your account automatically using your QBO account. You won't need to set a separate username or password.

  • If the Apron app is already connected to your QBO, you'll be prompted to create an account and can request access to the Apron company.

  • If Apron isn't yet connected to your QBO, you'll be redirected to Add-ons in QBO to connect Apron first.

Business identity verification

Before your first payment, Apron will ask you to verify your business identity — see Verify your identity for full details.

What to expect

  1. Click Pay on a bill in QBO

  2. The Apron panel opens; if verification hasn't been completed, you're prompted to verify your business

  3. Apron pre-fills as many details as possible from your QBO account

  4. Complete any remaining details and submit

  5. Approval is usually instant — you're redirected to the payment flow straight away

  6. In some cases Apron may need a little more time to review your details — we'll email you when you're good to go, usually within one business day

Not sure if your company type is supported? See Check supported countries and industries.

User roles and access

The Pay button in QBO is visible based on your QBO role and plan. If you can see bills but the Pay button isn't showing up, it's usually down to your QBO role or plan — contact Apron support with your details and we'll look into it.
