Pay with Apron Wallet

Learn how to use your Apron Wallet to make bill, expenses, and payroll payments in Apron.

With bank account and credit card payments, you authorise each payment directly with your bank or card provider. Wallet works differently: you fund it in advance, then pay from your balance without needing to leave Apron. The account Owner controls who can release Wallet funds, so payments can happen without everyone needing bank account access.

How it works

When creating a payment in Bills or Payroll, you'll see Wallet as a payment method alongside bank account and credit card.

If you already use Wallet for Apron Card, it will appear automatically. If you're new to Wallet, you'll be prompted to enable it when selecting a payment method.

If your Wallet balance is too low, you'll need to top it up before the payment can be released. See how in our article: Add money to your Apron Wallet.

Wallet supports payments in all currencies. You pay from your GBP balance and we convert to the recipient's currency. See our article Make international payments for further details.

Only the Owner can release Wallet payments by default. To grant access to other members, the Owner can go to Wallet > Manage access. Only members with payment permissions can be added, and the Owner can revoke access at any time from the same screen.

If your account doesn't have an Owner yet, you'll be prompted to add one when you try to pay with Wallet.

Security

Every Wallet payment requires two-factor authentication (2FA). You'll be asked to authenticate each time you release a payment, and so will any other member who completes a payment on your behalf.

We also require 2FA for anyone with Wallet visibility. If a member doesn't have it set up yet, they'll be prompted automatically. For more on 2FA, see our article: Enable 2FA in Apron.

Scheduling supplier payments

Wallet is the only payment method that lets you schedule supplier (bill) payments for a future date. Choose your delivery date when setting up the payment and we'll release it early morning on that date.

Funds aren't blocked when you schedule. If your balance is too low when the payment is due, we'll notify you by email so you can top up before it's attempted.

Payroll payments can already be scheduled with any payment method. See our article Make payroll payments for details.

Note: Scheduling is available for GBP payments only. Wallet supports international payments, but FX payments (and any payrun involving FX) need to be sent straight away.
