To enable the 'Authenticate with NatWest' option, you'll need to enable Third Party Provider Payments privileges for your company members (called Users in Bankline) who will make payments with Apron.

The process is similar for Natwest, Royal Bank of Scotland and Ulster Bank.

You'll need to set up a new role in Bankline and assign that role to the users who will be authorising payments.

Step 1: Create a New Role with Third-Party Payments Privileges

From the Administration menu, select Manage Role. Then click Create Role in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

On the 'Create Role' screen:

1. Enter a name and description in the dedicated fields, e.g. 'TPP Privileges'.

2. At the bottom, you can use the drop-down menu to display privileges by category. Select Third Party Provider consents and click Save & go.

3. Tick all of the boxes on the next screen and click Save & go.

4. On the next screen, tick all of the boxes, change the privileges type in the drop-down to Third Party Provider payments and click Save & go.

5. Tick all of the boxes on the next screen and click Save & go.

6. After that, tick all of the boxes and click Continue to go to the next screen.

7. Select the accounts you would like to use for payments with Apron, and click Continue.

8. On the next screen, click Confirm new role.

Step 2: Assign this role to users who will be initiating payments in Apron

  1. Go to Manage Users and select the user you would like to activate this role for.

  2. In the Edit User menu, scroll down to the bottom and click 'Edit roles'.

  3. On the Edit roles screen, select the new role you would like to activate for this user and click Continue.

  4. On the next screen, click Confirm changes in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

Step 3: Authorise the Role Changes

  1. You will be prompted to authenticate the role changes using your Smartcard. To proceed, click Authenticating the action with your Smartcard.

  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the Smartcard authorisation process.

    • Insert your Smartcard into the reader and enter your PIN to authenticate the changes.

  3. Once the changes are successfully authenticated, the new role will be active.

Step 4: Complete the Setup

Once the role is assigned and authorised, the users will be able to authenticate payments with NatWest in Apron.

Note: Both desktop and mobile payments are possible using Open Banking with NatWest. If you’d like to use mobile payments, please make sure you have the following role set up in Bankline: Privileges Associated.

If you’re still facing any issues with completing the payment via Open Banking, you can always send us the funds using a bank transfer instead.
