Manage existing cards

Learn how to manage your Apron Card, including spend controls, freezing, and ATM withdrawal access.

Written by Yury Syachin

Here's everything you can do with your virtual Apron Card once it's been created.

See card details

Only the cardholder can see full card details – in the mobile app, or on desktop with a quick confirmation in the mobile app.

In the mobile app:

  1. Tap the card in the Cards section.

  2. Tap See details.

You'll see the card number, expiry date, CVC code, billing address, and PIN (for physical cards). Tap Hide details when done.

On desktop:

  1. Click See details for the card.

  2. Confirm the request in the Apron mobile app – you'll get a push notification and have 5 minutes to respond.

    • Confirm: card number, expiry date and CVC code appear on the desktop and can be copied. To view the PIN and billing address, you need to use our mobile app.

    • Reject: details won't show, and you'll be prompted to contact support.

Note: You'll need the mobile app, version 3.0.9 or later, to confirm. No app yet? You'll be prompted to install it first – the 5-minute timer starts once you're logged in and click See details again. Confirmation is needed every time, for every card.

The card's billing address is your company's registered address. To update it, go to Company settings > Company details > Company information > Addresses in the browser app and edit the Registered address. The change will be visible immediately the next time you view the details in the mobile app. Only the Owner or Admins can do this.

Add to Apple Pay or Google Pay Wallet

Only the cardholder can add their card to a digital wallet:

  1. Tap the card in the Cards section.

  2. Tap Add to Apple Wallet or Add to Google Wallet.

  3. You'll be redirected to add the card to your digital wallet.

Note: This option is available only in the mobile app, and isn't available for merchant cards – see: Create a merchant Apron Card.

View and edit card limits

All users (Admin/Owner, regardless of whether they're the cardholder or not, as well as other roles who are the cardholder of a specific card) can view card limits, but only Admins and Owners can edit them.

To view limits:

  • Open the Cards section from your mobile app or on desktop and select the card.

If you're an Admin or Owner, you'll also see the option to edit card limits.

You can update limits for:

  • Daily spend

  • Weekly spend

  • Monthly spend

  • All-time spend

You can lower the limit to below the amount already spent. In that case, the limit will be maxed out until the next period resets.

Manage ATM withdrawal access

You can restrict or allow ATM withdrawals for physical cards. This can be managed by Admins or Owners, while cardholders can view the access settings on their own card. By default, ATM withdrawals are allowed.

To view or edit this, open the Cards section and select the card (either from your mobile app or from desktop).

If you're an Admin or Owner, you'll see a toggle next to ATM withdrawals to restrict or allow them. If you're the cardholder, you'll see whether ATM withdrawals are Restricted or Not restricted.

Freeze or unfreeze a card

Cardholders can freeze and unfreeze their own card. Admins and Owners can freeze any card on the account.

To freeze a card:

  1. Open the Cards section from your mobile app or on the desktop app and select the card.

  2. Select Freeze.

The card will be marked as 'Card is frozen' in the list.

To unfreeze a card:

  • If you froze your own card, tap the frozen card and select Unfreeze.

  • If an Admin or Owner froze your card, you won't be able to unfreeze it yourself — you'll be prompted to contact your Admin to unfreeze it.

Change the card label

Only Admins and Owners can change a card's label.

  1. Open the Cards section from your mobile app or on the desktop app and select the card.

  2. In the mobile app, go to Settings and choose Edit card name. If viewing the card on the desktop app, click on the three dots and choose Edit card label.

  3. Enter a new name, and choose Save.

Change the cardholder

For merchant cards, Admins and Owners can reassign the cardholder at any time, so if someone managing a subscription leaves the company, you can hand their card to a new cardholder without disrupting the payments it covers.

  1. Open the Cards section from your mobile app or browser app and select the card.

  2. Select Change cardholder.

  3. Choose the new cardholder and confirm.

Both the previous and new cardholders will be notified of the change.

This isn't possible for virtual or physical cards – if you need to change who holds one of those, terminate the current card and create a new one for someone else.

Edit allowed merchants (merchant cards only)

Admins and Owners can add, remove, or change which merchants a merchant card works with, at any time, from the card's detail view under Allowed merchants > Edit. Leaving no merchants selected lets the card work with any merchant.

If you're only cancelling one of several subscriptions on a card, remove that merchant from the list rather than freezing or terminating the whole card.

Terminate a card

Only Admins and Owners can terminate a card.

  1. Open the Cards section from your mobile app or on the desktop app and select the card.

  2. In the mobile app, go to Settings and select Terminate card. If viewing the card on the desktop app, click on the three dots and choose Terminate card.

  3. Confirm the action by choosing Terminate

Once terminated:

  • The card disappears from the company's Cards list.

  • Terminated cards (both physical and virtual) can not be reinstated. Need a replacement? Simply create a new card.

  • If a cardholder is removed from a company on the Apron platform, their card is automatically terminated. Merchant cards work differently: the cardholder must be changed, or the card terminated, before that person can be removed from the company.

  • If the company account is closed, all cards are automatically terminated.
