Order and activate your physical Apron Card

Order your physical Apron Card and learn how to activate and use it for business expenses.

Written by Yury Syachin

Getting a physical Apron Card is straightforward. You'll order it through the app, we'll deliver it within 10 business days, and you can start using it – added to Apple Pay or Google Pay, or for online payments – before it even arrives.

How to order a physical card

Go to Cards in the mobile app or Expenses > Cards in the browser app, then choose Create card.

  1. Choose the card type – select Physical card. For other card types, see: Create a virtual Apron Card and Create a merchant Apron Card.

  2. Select the cardholder – choose from the list of people linked to your company in Apron. If someone isn't showing up in the list, you can add them by tapping the Add member button.

Before someone can be selected as a cardholder

They must have their name added to Apron, and the name must meet card requirements. For example, it shouldn't:

  • Exceed 40 characters

  • Include special characters

  • Include non-Latin letters

The name can be updated in the browser app.

Label the card

Give the card a label so it's easy to recognise later, such as the cardholder's name or what it'll be used for. We'll pre-fill this for you in the app, but you can change it if needed.

Add a delivery address

If you're ordering the card for yourself, you'll be asked to provide a delivery address next – this must be within the UK.

If you're ordering it for someone else, you'll skip this step and go straight to confirming the order. The cardholder will then get an email and push notification asking them to log in to the mobile app or browser app and add their own delivery address. The card won't be dispatched until they've done this – so if a card seems delayed, it's worth checking whether the cardholder's added their delivery address yet.

Confirm and pay the card fee

Physical cards have a one-off issuance fee of £5, taken from your Apron Wallet. If it's your company's first card, you can go into negative balance and we'll collect the fee when you next top up your Wallet. Learn more in our article: Add money to your Apron Wallet.

Once confirmed, you'll see a summary of your order – if the card's for you, this includes an estimated arrival date; if it's for someone else, it confirms they've been notified to add their delivery address.

After the card is ordered

The new card will appear in the list of company cards in the mobile app and under the Cards section in the browser app.

While you wait for delivery, you can already use it to pay online, or add it to Apple Pay or Google Pay, from the mobile app.

To learn how to manage your card after creation, head to: Manage existing cards.

Activate your card once it arrives

To activate your card, make your first transaction via Chip and PIN. You'll find your PIN by going to the Cards section in the mobile app, selecting your card and going to Manage > Remind PIN.

Your PIN is provided by Apron, and you can change it at selected ATMs once your card's activated.

After the first successful transaction with Chip and PIN, you can also pay in store by tapping your card.

What name appears on the card? The physical card displays your legal business name.

Card fees and transaction types
