Keep every subscription in budget without having to keep watch on it. Lock a card to a single merchant so it can't be used anywhere else, set a limit that catches price creep early, and freeze it in a click the moment you cancel.
How to create a merchant card
Go to Cards in the mobile app or Expenses > Cards in the browser app, then choose Create card.
Choose the card type – select Merchant card. For other card types, see: Create a virtual Apron Card and Order and activate your physical Apron Card.
Select the cardholder – choose from the list of people linked to your company in Apron. If someone isn't showing up in the list, you can add them by tapping the Add member button.
Before someone can be selected as a cardholder
They must have their name added to Apron, and the name must meet card requirements. For example, it shouldn't:
Exceed 40 characters
Include special characters
Include non-Latin letters
The name can be updated in the browser app.
Choose the allowed merchants
Search for and select up to 10 merchants the card should work with – transactions from any other merchant will be declined. You can update this list at any time after the card's created.
Can't find a merchant? Choose Request merchant and our team will review it. You can still create the card while you wait.
Don't want to restrict the card? Choose Skip and it'll work with any merchant instead.
Label the card
Give the card a label so it's easy to recognise later, such as the subscription or merchant it's for. We'll pre-fill this for you in the app, but you can change it if needed.
Once everything's set, choose Create card and your merchant card's ready to go.
After the card is created
The new card will appear in the list of company cards in the mobile app and under the Cards section in the browser app.
Only the cardholder can view the full card details – card number, expiry date and CVC – needed for online payments.
Your card is ready to use as soon as you top up your Apron Wallet.
Note: Merchant cards can't be added to Apple Pay or Google Pay. This is by design – merchant cards are built for online subscription payments, so there's no need to add them to a digital wallet for in-person spending.
