Setting up an Apron account for payments requires a bit more information compared with what’s required for a capture-only account. This is because we need to verify your business for financial services. It is standard practice in order to prevent financial crime.

What you'll need

  • Legal name of your business or charity.

  • Company number or charity number.

  • Registered office address.

  • Operating address (if different from registered address).

  • Business category information.

  • Details of shareholders owning 25%+ of the company.

  • Details of company directors or charity trustees.

  • Valid ID if you're a sole trader.

Additional information we'll ask for

  • Countries where you'll send money.

  • Types of payments you want to process (e.g. supplier invoices, payroll, expenses).

  • Expected monthly payment volume.

  • Your business structure and category.

To set up your payments account

These 5 easy steps will have you up and running with an Apron account, usually within 1 business day.

  1. Start account creation – Sign up at getapron.com

  2. Choose account type – Practice or Business.

  3. Enter company details – Provide all required business information.

  4. Submit for verification – Our team reviews your application.

  5. Account activation – Usually completed within 1 business day.

Verification process

Once you've provided all of the required information:

  • We'll verify your company details against official records.

  • Check that the provided documentation meets our requirements.

  • Ensure that you meet eligibility criteria for UK financial services.

  • Our team may contact you if additional information is needed.

Why we need verification

As an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) agent, we follow strict regulatory standards to:

  • Comply with UK financial services regulations.

  • Prevent fraud and money laundering.

  • Protect your business and recipients.

  • Ensure secure payment processing.

If verification takes longer

We usually complete the verification process within 1 business day, but occasionally it can take longer if:

  • Additional documentation is needed.

  • Your company information requires clarification.

  • Apron is dealing with a higher-than-usual volume of applications.

Don’t worry; we'll keep you updated via email throughout the process.

What happens after verification

Once you’ve received the good news that your account has been verified, you can:

  • Immediately start processing payments.

  • Set up approval workflows for your team.

  • Add bank accounts and payment methods.

  • Begin paying suppliers and employees.

It’s time to get your Apron on.
